My Story

Through my mid-teenage years, most of my relationships were built and formed around drinking alcohol. It was very normal to be around alcohol when I was younger, thinking nothing of it when my friends and I habitually found ourselves drinking at the weekends and increasingly during the weeknights. What started as perceivably a cool social habit, soon turned into drinking on a daily basis and dependency.

From the outside looking in my life was seemingly successful having graduated from university and progressed consistently up the career ladder over the course of my mid to late twenties. However, underneath the veil of success and material achievement, alcohol was starting to take far more from me than it was giving back.

Fast forward to my early thirties and I'd experienced the loss of friendships, intimate relationships, alongside the ability to drive for two years due to alcohol. Upon reaching my rock bottom, I identified a common denominator amongst almost every bad decision I had ever made in my life…alcohol. The penny dropped, it was a moment of enlightenment for me, leading to a life of sobriety ever since.

When researching how to remove alcohol from my life I soon discovered that relevant information wasn't readily available, which subsequently led me on a journey of trial, error and attempted moderation until I finally succeeded in sobriety. I knew that group meetings and Alcoholics Anonymous wasn’t for me, I had equally tried alcohol therapy only to feel like there was zero value in the sessions I attended. It felt like I was being coached on how not to drink by a therapist, not by someone who intimately understood the pitfalls of the process and most importantly how to succeed at happily living a sober life.

I then came to realise that you can remove alcohol successfully without willpower and by reframing the very way you look at alcohol, amongst other powerful changes in perception. This provides the very foundation of all the courses available through Akeso. The courses talk about the truth, how to overcome the initial pitfalls and how to navigate life without the reliance of alcohol. Whether you are looking at a short-term break from alcohol to reset, or you're curious about longer term sobriety, then the steps I’ve taken myself to succeed will equally help you in your endeavours. I can wholeheartedly say that achieving long-term sobriety is the best decision I’ve ever made and has profoundly changed my life for the better, as I know it can yours.
